Software for BeOS
The development of the applications listed below has been stopped. There won't be any updates for these applications in the near future. Source codes for some of the programs are available in case you like one of these programs to be ported to current versions of BeOS or its successors.
Helios
A CD burning application which is capable of burning data CDs without creating an image file. Helios also creates audio CDs, bootable CDs and enhanced CDs. Multiple language support included. Uses cdrtools compiled for the BeOS (see below).
Latest versions (v1.7+) are maintained by Mark Hogben. Zeta versions will not be available here.
Helios Language Manager
The editor for the strings contained within Helios. The Helios Language Manager is not exclusively for Helios but for any other application, too. The sources needed to add multiple language support to other applications are included.
ImageMounter
Mounts filesystem images by right-clicking. ImageMounter can be used as an add-on or by selecting it as an application out of the Tracker's "Open With..." menu. Supported filesystem types:
- BFS
- HFS
- DOS
- ISO9660
If ImageMounter is double-clicked (ie used as a normal application), a small window pops up where you can drop the image file. The source code is available at blog.maurice-michalski.de (search for imagemounter).
LAMEgui
LAMEgui is a GUI for the LAME encoder 3.88+. It includes a CD ripper and a file list to encode multiple files at once (queued). You can pause, resume, stop and skip any file and set the priority of the encoding thread.
The following functions of LAME are included in LAMEgui:
- CBR encoding ability
- VBR encoding with possibility to change VBR quality from 9..0; max-/min-rate-sliders
- ABR encoding ability; max-/min-rate-sliders
- COMP method: compression rate eg: "encode file as VBR, but keep the compression rate to 15x"
- resampling from 8kHz to 48kHz
- presets given by LAME are supported
- ATH (absolute threshold of hearing) support up to 15dB (lowering by 15dB)
- highpass/lowpass filtering between 500Hz and 23kHz
- customizable algorithm quality from 9..0 and many more through adding the parameters in LAMEgui
EggsControl
Plays back multiple sound files at the same time. The source code is available at blog.maurice-michalski.de (search for eggscontrol).
a-book
This is an appointment book for the BeOS. Store your dates in there and a-book reminds you when you have a date. The source code is available at blog.maurice-michalski.de (search for a-book).
PP Viewer
A viewer for PP20 (PowerPacker 2.0) encrypted files. Such files are known from the Amiga platform and are not readable under BeOS without special tools like PP Viewer. The source code is available at blog.maurice-michalski.de (search for pp viewer).
FileCropper
Truncates files. The source code is available at blog.maurice-michalski.de (search for filecropper).
GalaxyScreenSaver
A screen saver which shows a rotating galaxy. It starts with a very young galaxy (as you can see on the screenshot). For some time arms are visible but disappear due to the low density of stars. The galaxy contains 1800 stars. Just for fun.
KBreset
Resets the keyboard and sets num-, caps- and scroll-lock LEDs. This can be useful, if your keyboard locks up or if the num-lock and the scroll-lock LEDs are on at boot time (as it happens on many x86 systems).
Entenkontrolle
"Entenkontrolle" turns your room into a duck pond! (Needs a sound card with speakers connected.)
